IBM University Day on April 26 I would like to welcome all of you to participate in IBM University Day this coming April 26 (Wednesday), 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in RTP at the IBM Employee Activity and Fitness Center (EAFC; directions at the bottom of this note). Registration and poster set-up begins at 8 a.m. The schedule of events is attached below. This is an important opportunity to showcase what the academic community has to offer industry. For you students, it is specifically an opportunity to meet with prospective employers within the IBM RTP development community. Representatives from all IBM divisions at the site have been invited, and so there will be representation from the server and technology divisions, as well as IBM Software Group, IBM Global Services (IGS) and others. Also on hand will be representatives from all corporate and local IBM university relations programs, that support joint research projects and/or recruit students.This is also an opportunity to hear what other local universities are doing. As you can see, we have a very exciting slate of speakers, that include some of the most distinguished faculty and executives from our local universities. In addition: Sue Horn (the senior IBM Software Group executive for the RTP site and owner of my RTP Center for Advanced Studies or CAS), Ric Telford (VP, IBM Tivoli Autonomic Computing, and owner of the Autonomic Computing Technology Institute or ACTI), Louis Masi (Director, IBM University & Innovation Programs) and Kevin Faughnan (Director, IBM Academic Initiative) will all be on hand at the event. Between them, they represent nearly all the corporate and local IBM programs that fund university activities. They will make some important announcements - and hand out awards. Also, for your students, IBM Recruiting and Extreme Blue will be on hand. Attached below is a list of the skills, etc. that Extreme Blue is looking for. So encourage your undergraduate and graduate students to attend. Both IBM groups will have tables set up among the poster sessions, and host main hall talks in the afternoon, so encourage your graduate students to present a poster. A poster is a great way for a grad student to attract the attention of the IBMers in attendance. On a first-co me-first-serve basis, there will also be space for poster sessions/demonstrations by faculty who did not get a chance to present in the main hall or back room. Lunch (and a light breakfast, coffee, beverages, etc.) will be provided. Please notify me immediately (rindos AT us.ibm.com) if you and/or your students plan to attend.
