The Intel IXA Lab

The Intel IXA lab provides a set of remotely accessible programmable network processors and host servers for research work in College of Computing and School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The following depicts the network setup of these hosts and their attached network processors.

The ilab (Intel IXA lab) Cluster consists of 8 Dell Power Edge Machines with 4 CPU’s each and 2 Radisys IXP 2400 boards attached to them. Each host consists of 2 Ethernet interfaces (eth0 and eth1) and each of the IXP board consists of 3 Mac ports (port0, port1 and port2). We are currently using only port2 for conducting experiments. Apart from these Mac ports, the Xscale core in the Radisys board also has a network interface, which can be used to log into these boards directly.

The eth0 of the host machine and the network interface of the ENP boards directly go to CoC uplink and are addressed uniquely with globally routable IP addresses.

The eth1 interface of the host machine and the Mac ports from the IXP boards are all connected to the same Virtual LAN. Sample data streams are injected into this VLAN from any of the host machines through the eth1 interface.
